Friday July 22- Jacob vs. Sloan
Opening Reception Friday Night July 22nd from 7-10pm. Two heavy weight painters from the shores of the Northeast square off in a “Battle at the Beach” Turp War Extravaganza at Helltown Workshop. Jacob vs. Sloan pits two friends in a spray paint, pilot ink cage match gallery exhibit. “I am going to beat Jacob down with his own surfboard and sign my name on his forehead with his own paint marker!” states Sloan. “I'M gunna knock SLOAN out COLD...Ima gunna paint like Picasso & use color like Van Gogh"...If SLOAN even dreams of out painting me , he better wake up and apologize" Jacob retorts. Andrew Jacob is a local surfer and painter. The Work of Andrew Jacob channels and juxtaposes the great wave painters of Japan from the 1800’s and the Low Brow, modern, underground comics scene of today. Vibrant, psychedelic rhythmic waves roll as koi Fish fuse with panthers, samurai and mythical beasts in a blaze of color and glory.
Andrew Sloan is an American-born, self-taught artist currently living in Providence, Rhode Island. His paintings and illustrations have appeared on many surfaces and mediums over the past decade. From outdoor murals to gallery walls, clothing to CD packaging, Sloan has developed a distinctive style incorporating strong color blocks and bold black outlines. His musical, street-influenced works have appeared in solo and group contemporary shows uniting graffiti, Pop, figurative, surf/skate, lowbrow, and Outsider art. He is active in exhibitions, live painting gigs, commercial product design, private commissions, mural work and urban youth arts education. Andrew is represented by galleries in Burlington (VT), Wellfleet (MA), Miami (FL), and Providence (RI).
